What is Oral Surgery?

It is imperative that defects, injuries and diseases of the hard and soft tissues of the face, mouth, teeth and jaws are effectively diagnosed and surgically treated. This is classified as oral surgery.

We always use the least invasive treatment possible for any given dental problem. However, in some cases, less invasive treatment options are just not enough and oral surgery is needed.

Dental Implants

Dental implants are small titanium screws that function similar to natural tooth roots. As part of the process to replacing a missing tooth and restore your smile, dentists place dental implants. Together with a tooth replacement such as a bridge or crown, an implant will look and feel much like a natural tooth.

Pin Hole Gum Surgery

With pin hole gum surgery, our dentists can treat gum recession due to bone loss caused by gum disease. A pinhole instrument is used to create small holes above the affected area. Leveraging this technique, your dentist can address multiple areas of recession during one appointment, and the healing process takes only days instead of weeks.

Tooth Extractions

While we always prefer to save a natural tooth, there are some cases where this will prove impossible. If a tooth is too severely damaged as a result of injury, gum disease or decay, your dentist may need to remove it.

Wisdom Tooth Removal

This final set of molars emerges in the back corners of a normal adult mouth. If your wisdom teeth are causing issues for your oral hygiene, your dentist may recommend removing them to help preserve your oral health.

Frenectomy

By performing a frenectomy procedure, your dentist eliminates a frenum, a small piece of tissue that joins your cheeks, tongue or lips to your gum area. While our dentists typically perform frenectomies for babies, they can also complete it for children and adults whose frenum is restricting function. This condition is commonly referred to as cheek-tied, tongue-tied or lip-tied.

Bone Grafts & Sinus Lifts

During a bone graft procedure, your dentist adds bone tissue to your jaw bone, strengthening it to support a dental implant. A sinus lift is a type of bone graft in which your dentist adds bone material to the upper back jaw to raise and increase the amount of bone in the sinus area, so a dental implant can be placed.
